Scary new research that shows how the melting of ice in Greenland could cause rises in the world’s oceans that are much greater than once thought.

Austin on the iPod

Here’s a lovely little thing to have on your iPod next time you’re in downtown Austin. Citizen Pod allows you to download guides of the city of Austin and put them on your iPod. No longer will you wander around 6th street thinking “if only I knew where to go to get a good beer”.

Manue and I went to Paris last weekend. We had an awesome time. Great food, great people, great city.

Google wins fight with DOJ

Looks like Google will not have to hand over user searches to the Department of Justice after all. They didn’t get off entirely, but looks like our personal information is still safe from the prying eyes of government.

Death & Taxes

Where are your tax dollars going? Here’s a nice graphic that breaks it down for you. Roughly 50% goes to military spending. Quite a bit more than we’re spending on education & human services.

Sony BMG Settlement

Claim your share of the Sony BMG settlement

A few months back, Sony BMG music was caught doing something they shouldn’t have been. They were installing software on your computer without your knowledge. They were then using this software to monitor what you were listening to (to make sure you weren’t stealing their music). Have you purchased a Sony CD in the last year or so? If so, you may want to check this out. There’s now a settlement and you may be entitled to some free stuff. The Electronic Freedom Foundation has created a convenient way for you to see if you’re affected and learn how to get what’s coming to you.

Google puchases 3D modeling company

I have no idea what this is about, but it looks like a really cool product. It’s called “Sketchup” and claims to make 3D modeling easy and fun. You can download an evaluation copy to try it out (though to purchase, it’s $495). Perhaps Google will find some reason to give it away to us for free…

Website filtering for soldiers in iraq

Why does this not surprise me at all.  From an anonymous marine in Iraq to blogger Wonkette.

Unfortunately anonomizers don’t work out here (never have). Anyway, I had a few minutes today and thought I’d look and see what else was banned on the Marine web here. I think the results speak for themselves:
