Just after the first Ukranian Election last November, a sign language translator for the state run television station decided to inform the world that the election had been rigged. The best part is that no one at the station even noticed.
In her own daring protest, she signed: “I am addressing everybody who is deaf in the Ukraine. Our president is Victor Yushchenko. Do not trust the results of the central election committee. They are all lies. … And I am very ashamed to translate such lies to you. Maybe you will see me again,” she concluded, hinting at what fate might await her. She then continued signing the rest of officially scripted news.

The piece of info I feel is missing from all of this is exactly how the woman knew the election results were fraudulent. Are we supposed to assume she saw something in the course of her job that proved they were false? Or was she just voicing her opinion in a domain more public than most people have access to – i.e. television? I’m hoping it’s the former rather than latter, but I don’t think the article says either way…
