Bangkok to Siam Reap

The trip from Bangkok to Siam Reap, where Angkor Wat is located, is an adventure. You travel nearly 12 hours in crampted busses with random people. For much of the time, you’re breathing in large quantities of dust that get stirred up along the dirt road that passes for a highway in Cambodian. So why do it? Well, why not?

Rounders

There are a number of things that I miss about Austin. Rounders is one of them. Not the best pizza I’ve ever had, but pretty close. They also make these garlic knots that are pretty amazing. Basically just pizza dough rolled up and fried in garlic butter. Mmmmmm… my arteries are getting clogged just thinking about it.

Oslo @ Midnight

I took this picture tonight looking due north. Oslo is so far up there that the sun just kind of skirts around the horizon and then comes back up again. So all night long, it looks like the sun is about to come up in the north.

Just a few short hundred miles from here they have 24 hours of daylight right now. Weird.

I really like this picture of Adam & Beth. I know the color isn’t that great and it’s not really in very good focus, but I still like it.

Alamo Rolling Roadshow

The Alamo Drafthouse is making an incredible trip accross the country to show 12 films in their original shooting locations.

In 2005, the Alamo is setting out on a 6000 mile, 21 day journey, across the west for a series of film screenings that will take the movie-going experience to a whole new level. We will be screening 12 famous films in their original shooting locations, chosen specifically to intensify the viewing experience.

For Example:

Party Night

A couple of months back, my friend Adam turned the big three-oh. To celebrate the occasion, we had a party that can only be described in retrospect as the social event of the season. I was extrememly happy with how some of these pictures turned out. While you can just click the pic to see the set, I highly recommend the slideshow.

May 17 is the Norwegian equivilant of the 4th of July in the US. The celebration consists of a “childrens parade” that lasts about 5 hours. And all of Oslo comes to see it.

I was fortunate enough to get to spend the day with some new friends.

In 1967, Mercedes was forced to pull the 230 sl from the market in order to meet emision standards. There were less than 200 produced before they made the change. My grandfather owns one of these and has been working off an on over the past year to get it fixed up again. When I was home over Christmas, he took me for ride.

Trilogy was this crazy “dot-com wannabe” sort of company that was really good at throwing around tons of money strictly for the purposes of entertainment. There was alcohol, trips to Vegas, incredibly fun people and 80-hour work weeks. It was a crazy time. I’m glad I was there.

On April 21, 2001, after only 8-months of wonderful fun, they laid off myself and 100 of my closes friends. In a crazy twist of fate, they put together a pretty friggin’ incredible severance package… so we spent the summer bumming around Austin and then I travelled around the world with a good friend and a big backpack for 5 months.

Anyway, long story short… while in Cambodia, I snapped this photo of an ant.

Another interesting thing about Norway…

I was walking home from a club just now and noticed something very interesting. Basically, looking off at the horizon, it appears that sun is about to come up. The sky is just a bit lighter at the horizon… like dawn. Now, this is interesting for a couple of reasons:

  1. It’s nearly 2am.
  2. I’m looking due north.

I’m really pretty accustomed to the sun rising in the east and setting in the west and when it’s night, it’s dark. It’s just not like that here right now. The days are long, the sun rises and sets in the north, and the nights aren’t really very dark. What’s more, we still have another month before “the longest day”.

Crazy.
