Swift Boat Article
So, it seems that you need an account at the Chicago Tribune to read the actual Kerry “Swift Boat” article… so here it is :)
I spent some time on the phone with my grampa this morning. He pointed out that the year of an election is always a good year. Every election since he was born, there are more cars sold… more homes built… more money to go around. That does not seem to be the case this year. What does that say? Why is this year different? Why aren’t we talking about that fact instead of focusing on personal attacks?
By the way, for those of you that didn’t take notice… Oil prices are up and consumer confidence is WAY down in August. My question is this, why are we focused on some bogus question about 30 year old honor instead of the now 1.8 million jobs lost and the fact that high energy costs are making it impossible for business to do do business in this country.
Think about it… when fuel is expensive, shipping is expensive. When shipping is expensive, then durable goods (things that have to be moved around) are expensive. When durable goods are expensive, then the cost of doing business in general is expensive. Energy is essential to growth… and we don’t control the flow of energy. We import it. What does this mean when a consumer nation can’t afford to consume?
My prediction is that once the election is over… not matter who wins… we’re going to see some crazy inflation over which the federal reserve will be powerless. This is what our leaders should be discussing, not what happened on a river in the jungle 30 years ago. Who cares?
We have to stop getting caught up in the personal attacks. They take away from debate on the real issues.
It’s time to start asking questions and demanding answers.
