I was just presented with a link to this earlier tonight while researching the Hasterd (rhymes with bastard) & Soros thing. I was absolutely confused. Seriously, what does this mean?
10 out of 10 Terrorists agree
Anyone but Bush
Shouldn’t there be more punctuation in there somewhere? Should I rearrange the words maybe? Is there some way to read this statement that doesn’t sound like it was written by someone that exists in some alternate reality… a reality where monkeys rule and people are incapible of rational thought perhaps?
Then I realized that we’ve officially reached that point… that point where all reasonable thought goes out the window. I almost want to buy this T-Shirt so I can show my grandkids how fucking messed up this country was “back in ‘04″…

The speaker of the house of representatives recently called George Soros a drug lord.
“You know, I don’t know where George Soros gets his money,” Hastert said on Fox News Sunday. “I don’t know where — if it comes overseas or from drug groups or where it comes from.”
As I read this, I realize that he didn’t actually call him a drug lord, but he certainly insinuated it. That seems to be the primary tactic of the current administration… insinuation.
Anyway, what did Soros do? He sent a letter to Hastert demanding an apology.
Do you think he’ll get it?
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that he will give the apology. You wanna know why? Well, the subtext of this letter is “Apologize, or we’ll be discussing this in court and in the national media for the next couple of months.” Hastert deep down knows that what he said is not true and he has nothing to back it up with. The last thing the party needs is a whole bunch of media coverage of Soros. Cause then people will realize that he’s not a crackpot… just a pissed off rich guy that realllllly hates Bush.
But seriously, what do you think?

It seems that USA Today has decided to create a bizarro world where Michael Moore gets to go to the Republican National Convention. What’s even more interesting is that McCain apparently didn’t know Moore was in the room when he made comments about Fahrenheit 911. The crowd turned to express their disapproval to Moore… who flashed them the “L”oser sign.
And it was all captured on television and broadcast nationwide. This is probably not a good thing for the Republicans.
“To bring up the film in the speech tonight, it’s not good for the Republican Party,” Moore explained. “It’s just going to make more people say: ‘I’d better go see this movie.’ And when people see it, they don’t feel much like voting Republican.”
What next? Can this election get any more entertaining?
Oh… wait… it actually does! That’s right, a week of columns by Moore! How entertaining!

400,000… that’s a lot of people. I certainly don’t remember hearing about 400,000 protesters in Boston last month. Probably because there weren’t 400,000 people protesting in Boston last month.
Is anyone out there listening? Are you seeing this?

George Soros has been called an excentric billionare… he’s been called an extreme leftist… so why is it that he calls himself a moderate republican? This is an extremly interesting article about a man that the Republican party has villified. My favorite quote…
As Morton Abramowitz, former president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, quipped in 1995, “He’s the only man in the U.S. who has his own foreign policy - and can implement it.”
I think everyone should really understand what this man is saying before they listen to the Republican party and just write him off. He sees extremism in either direction as bad. He believes that Bush’s extremist views are destroying this country… and he’s willing to invest millions and millions of dollars to get him out of office.

It’s starting to shape up nicely.
Except….
Jack Johnson & Elvis Costello are playing at the same time.
Modest Mouse & G-love are playing at the same time.
Wilco & Dirty Dozen Brass Band are playing at the same time.
So, looks like I have some decisions to make. Oh well.
Who else is going this year? What shows are you looking forward to?

So, it seems that you need an account at the Chicago Tribune to read the actual Kerry “Swift Boat” article… so here it is :)
I spent some time on the phone with my grampa this morning. He pointed out that the year of an election is always a good year. Every election since he was born, there are more cars sold… more homes built… more money to go around. That does not seem to be the case this year. What does that say? Why is this year different? Why aren’t we talking about that fact instead of focusing on personal attacks?
By the way, for those of you that didn’t take notice… Oil prices are up and consumer confidence is WAY down in August. My question is this, why are we focused on some bogus question about 30 year old honor instead of the now 1.8 million jobs lost and the fact that high energy costs are making it impossible for business to do do business in this country.
Think about it… when fuel is expensive, shipping is expensive. When shipping is expensive, then durable goods (things that have to be moved around) are expensive. When durable goods are expensive, then the cost of doing business in general is expensive. Energy is essential to growth… and we don’t control the flow of energy. We import it. What does this mean when a consumer nation can’t afford to consume?
My prediction is that once the election is over… not matter who wins… we’re going to see some crazy inflation over which the federal reserve will be powerless. This is what our leaders should be discussing, not what happened on a river in the jungle 30 years ago. Who cares?
We have to stop getting caught up in the personal attacks. They take away from debate on the real issues.
It’s time to start asking questions and demanding answers.
What an interesting history this painting has… and now you can add being stolen in an day time armed robbery.

Interesting story about a tribe in Brazil that has no concept of numbers or counting. They also don’t have distinct words for different colors. They also don’t have a creation story and don’t pass knowledge down through more than a few generations. Basically, this tribe is as odd as it gets.
