So I purchased a house yesterday. Never realized how many times you could legally be expected to sign your name…

About halfay through the process, I forgot what my signature looks like. Any idea how disturbing that is?

After the closing, I headed to the store and picked up a few cases of beer and some ice, then just sat on the front porch drinking. I met another neighbor who informed me that my house used to be the home of the founder of Austin City Limits. Also it was the home to one of Willie Nelson’s band members. And before all of that, there was an old cat lady living there. When she died, they found a whole bunch of cats in her place.

The new neighbor seems like a great Austin guy. I’m looking forward to getting to know him.

Today, we choose colors! And talk about landscaping with a friend from work. I’m hoping to get up more pictures tonight!

Returning home after work, I discovered a note written on the back of a reciept from Red River Cafe on my door…

Q: What’s
better than
an e-vite?
A: an
 r-vite!
(what the fuck is this about?)

Now, I must admit that I’m intrigued. I know these bands, although I’ve only seen UFT (and them only once). What the hell, let’s go!

The crew is in full force and the first band… is… well… let’s just say… HSGBFTG (High School Garage Band First Time Gig). Seriously, it was amazing. They were sort of together… they kept saying things like “Brian McDowd ladies and gentleman” and congratulating each other. And the gutarist had nearly every pedal they make (from my extensive knowledge of guitar pedal things). It was like they were trying to do an ironic interpretation of a HSGBFTG, only it was for real.

Also, there were a LOAD of high school girls there to fawn all over these guys (obviously had fake ID’s). It was amazing.

Anyway, after thier Ska/Funk/Rap/Soul/Grunge/Beatles extravaganza/excursion, Unified Feel Theory gave it their all. For those not familiar, I highly recommend that you check them out.

Also, Grimy Styles was quite nice. They don’t have a website, but you can buy CD’s at thier show. I would suggest it, seriously, you’ll feel better if you just buy one.

And if all of this weren’t enough, Kevin was in attendance. He’s also quite talented.

Was hoping to close on the house today, but unfortunately, it just didn’t happen. I was expecting to hear from my realtor(Kim) today about the possiblity of closing either today or tomorrow, but it looks like it’s going to probably be on Friday. Oh well. I guess I can wait another day or two…

So I swung by the ‘ol house after work today just to check things out again. When I got there, this guy was milling about my neighbor’s house… and what do you know, it was my new neighbor. We chatted for some time about the my house, his house, the neighborhood, etc. Quite nice to know that I’m going to have some nice people living next door. Not only that, but he’s an architect and I think he may have some good ideas for things I can do to my house.

One of the things that he mentioned was that our block may possibly be designated as historic at some point in the near future. Not only that, but my house (due to it’s Neo-classical stylings) may actually be a “contributing structure” which basically equals (drum roll please) a big tax break… (yeah!) as long as I don’t modify it too much.

Don’t worry, good reader, I will keep you updated on the progress of all things house related…

Who are we really? Where do we come from? What is “free will” and where does it come from? Does it really exist? We’ll probably never fully understand the answers to these (and other) questions, but we can finally answer the most important question of all… what is hip?

Some of you may know that I don’t really shave much (ever). Well for those of you that just hate having to spend big money on crappy Mach3 razors, rejoice. This guy has some advice for you!

I am buying a very cool house. Very cool! I started off looking for a place up in Hyde Park, but ended up finding a lovely place right downtown. It needs some work (a lot of work) but I’m ready. Gimme a hammer and a latter and I’ll nail things that are high off the ground all day long. I actually close on the place this coming week and I’m VERY excited. I’m probably going to take the next month or so to just get the place ready for move in. Need to get a fresh coat of paint on (any color suggestions?) and just give the place a good cleaning.

I’m probably going to have a big party in a month or two once I get a little more settled. I have big plans for the back yard to stay tuned. The yard is really a clean slate right now… nice and flat, a good tree, room for a couple of seating areas.

For those of you out there that have not been around me to hear all about the new place, let me break it down for you: It’s a lovely duplex at 6th and Highland. I’m living in the smaller one bedroom, one bath side and I have tenants living in the 2/1. The house is a good size and the back yard is not at all small. The house is currently in need of some major help with respect to “curb appeal”, but I’m thinking that a good coat of paint and some weekends spent in the yard will fix that. So exciting.

Here’s some pics of the place.

Okay… they got me. I started a personal blog sometime back, but didn’t really keep it super up to date… but now, some of my friends are showing me up by having Uber-hip blogs that just make my sad little website look like total crap! So I may as well jump on the bandwagon, right?

I hope to get the archive stuff turned on at some point as well. Blogger requires ftp, but I don’t have it, so I had to kind of hack my way around it :( Hopefully, I can get integrated a little better at some point.
